Yay, we’re all insiders! Or something

Dragon #364 is, for the moment at least, a free download. You do have to log in if you want to read articles as plain HTML, plus the links will go for-pay eventually, or else I’d link you straight to top-billed DMG author James Wyatt’s commentary on the design of that book, or the “Class Acts” article that adds two pages of the interesting wizardy stuff that should have been in the PHB. (Did y’all really need those two pages for something else that badly, WotC?) Oh, and the searchable rules database (aka D&D Compendium) is also free, for now. I wonder if taking these back behind a paywall eventually is gonna really backfire on Wizards – we have a bit of talk on that subject in the next Audio Report, but… yeah.

  1. The articles in Dungeon and Dragon are pretty interesting. The rules compendium is a bit buggy. I couldn’t, for example, find an entry for “Magic Missle”.

  2. I’m getting all the free stuff while it lasts, and some is good, some I find silly or useless. Nothing impressive enough to worry about losing it when it goes back into pay mode though. Oh, and I love the ink-draining dark colored bar at the top of every page in the articles…

  3. Re: Jack — yeah, I can’t believe the PDFs have all that massive black ink on every page. Definitely not designed to be printer friendly.

Re: Magic Missile. Man I can’t believe my spelling error!!! I probably would have spelled “missile silo” correctly, but couldn’t spell “Magic Missile”. Send me back to remedial spelling class.

  4. I didn’t see it at first. I cut and pasted ‘Missle’ a couple times before I noticed.

  5. Anyone else having trouble with WotC’s DND4E forums? I have had to reset my password (didn’t recognize me) and then now, it just won’t seem to take me to the 4E forums. I’m not sure if it’s just my computer or if they are incredibly overloaded. If the problem is due to overload of bandwidth then it makes you wonder how they are going to support a pay service on their site.
