Ticket to Ride – Nordic Countries coming in September

When we heard of copies of Ticket to Ride: Nordic Countries being brought here from overseas and selling for $100 of more, we knew the game would probably see an English translation. The official announcement (see below) came from Days of Wonder today, allowing Ticket fans a collective sigh of relief, as they’ll get their chance to claim train routes across Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. This will be a complete game, unlike the Switzerland expansion which required one of the main sets to play. Designed for 2-3 players, Nordic Countries should be available in September for $50.

World-wide fan demand prompts release of English, French and German language editions

Los Altos, CA; Paris, France – July 7, 2008. Days of Wonder, the publisher of top-quality board and card games, is announcing the upcoming release of Ticket to Ride: Nordic Countries.

This 2-3 player version in the award winning Ticket to Ride board game series was previously available only in Swedish, Norwegian, Danish and Finnish languages and features routes across Scandinavia in a vertically-formatted board map. This special edition version of Nordic Countries is expected to be available for only a limited time.

“The design of Ticket to Ride Nordic Countries, with its winter graphic themes of snowy landscapes, reindeer and even touches of holly, is a perfect match for the coming holiday season,” says Days of Wonder CEO, Eric Hautemont. “When we released the game in Scandinavia last year, we had no idea that Ticket to Ride players in the rest of the world would be so eager to get their own copy. I’m sure we fostered a lot of international gaming friendships as fans elsewhere tried to find gamers in the Nordic world who would buy and ship them a copy!”

Ticket to Ride Nordic Countries is a complete board game for 2-3 players and features 135 trains, 110 Nordic Train cards, 46 Destination Tickets and a special Globetrotter Bonus card. It is expected to be available in September from game retailers and the Days of Wonder web site. Suggested Retail Price is €40 and $50.

  1. We _almost_ tried importing this map because we have read it’s pretty much the best one yet. Very welcome news that we will see a domestic release on this one. (Eve if it comes at a time when there is MUCH consternation being thrown at D0W by some retailers.)
