Reviews
Another pair of reviews are being lobbed your way from the Cave Dwellers. First up, Mike gives us his take on Dungeoneer from Citizen Games, and sneaks in a few thoughts on dungeon exploration games in general. Demian sits down with Ghost Stories from Politically Incorrect Games, and provides a glimpse of what lies beyond the PDF’s cover.
At the start of a new week, we’ve got two more reviews for you. Merwin stares deep into the abyss with Death: Guardian at the Gate by Dark Quest Games. As if that weren’t enough, Demian provides the scoop on Hardnova from Politically Incorrect Games. Have a look at both and see if our staff’s thoughts urge you to spend your entertainment dollars, or save them for a video rental.
Two new reviews are up, themed around suds and surf, respectively. First Cedric gives us his take on Soap: The Game of Soap Opera Mayhem from Wingnut Games. Then Demian takes us hard astern to Deep7’s Blood Island XPG. Will both games get rave reviews, or would our reviewers prefer they walk the plank? Read ‘em to find out.
Merwin was so moved by Eden Studios‘ zombie fiction anthology, The Book of More Flesh, that he composed OgreCave’s first song. Yeah, you heard me. Sing along! Just follow the bouncing corpse. Don’t let it bite you, though.
Frank brings his first contribution to the Cave’s hoard of reviews, as he takes a look at Construct Mechanus from Philip J. Reed. Will the d20 supplement function as a well-oiled machine in his game sessions, or be left to rust on the shelf? Have a look and find out.
Joe hits us with a review of Citizen Games‘ Way of the Witch sourcebook. Only the second D20 book about witches that we’ve reviewed… I think.
Matthew has reviewed the Ogre Mark IV mini from Steve Jackson Games. This is not quite our first review of actual lead, but still: neat. Check it out.
I’ve been out of town all day, so this is going up a bit late, but today’s review is still worth noting. Demian’s dire warnings about St. Anton’s Fire by Troll Lord Games are meant to save you. Why did he find the adventure to be lacking? Read on to find out.
Merwin joins the Cave Dwellers with his review of Donjon by Anvilwerks. How did he and his players respond to the loose style of Donjon (which we listed in our Christmas Gift Guide 2002, by the way)? Find out inside.
For our first review of the year, Cedric gives us a look inside 1000 Faces: Villains & Scoundrels by Citizen Games. This NPC resource is packed with characters, and Cedric tells us exactly how useful they are. This also kicks off our resolution to have new reviews every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Have a look at our first one of the year, and check back often for more.
To start this year ending/beginning week off right, Matthew brings us his evaluation of The Rookie’s Guide to Criminal Organisations by Mongoose Publishing. I keep wanting to correct the British spelling of that last word in the title, but the publisher’s from the UK (and so is the reviewer), so I’ll restrain myself. Have a look and see what Matthew’s judgement was.
We’ve got two new reviews to get you through the weekend. First, Joe’s had a pre-release sneak peak at Foul Locales: Beyond the Walls, a cool new d20 supplement coming out soon from Mystic Eye Games. From Joe’s description, MEG’s got another winner I’ll be waiting in line for when it reaches stores. Also, Demian gives us his thoughts on Armada X, the last release from ThreeSixty Publishing before it closed up shop earlier this month. What did he like or dislike about the game? Ain’t tellin’. You’ll have to read it to find out.
Demian has done us all a great service by reviewing the most festive of all violent roleplaying games, Santa’s Soldiers: Second Edition by Deep7. How does it compare to the original version? Do elves bleed green, red, or eggnog? Find out inside.
Bubble, bubble, toil and — ah, skip it. Joe has an indepth look at one of Mongoose Publishing’s latest d20 supplements, The Quintessential Witch. How does it measure up against the other witchly concoctions out there? Read on to find out.
Cedric has pawed through the new BESM Fantasy Bestiary from Guardians of Order. This latest Tri-Stat supplement offers creatures galore, but on the whole, how did Cedric rate it? Find out inside.
This guy does a bunch of them here. Check out his reports on the Essen game fair in Germany.
No power outage today, so we’ve got stuff for ya. Joe has checked out Game Mastering Secrets: Second Edition from Grey Ghost Press, and tells all in his latest review. Is it exactly what the beginner GM in your circle of friends needs? Perhaps so. Find out inside.
We’ve got a new review up, this time from our news cohort Demian. Go take a look at what he had to say about The Secret at Greenrock, a d20 adventure from Citizen Games. I’ve already read what Demian had to say, and for some odd reason, I got the impression he didn’t like it.
