OgreCave GNU – KublaCon 2014 (Thomas Denmark/Studio Denmark)
by admin on Jun.10, 2014, under Convention coverage, GNU episode, Interviews
While scanning the landscape (gamescape?) in the exhibit hall at KublaCon 2014, we spotted a new roleplaying book that required investigation. In this Gaming News Update interview, we ask Thomas Denmark of Studio Denmark for details on his upcoming RPG, Warriors of the Red Planet. Tom is responsible for such memorable game designs as Dungeoneer and Murder of Crows, so there’s no doubt we’re looking forward to seeing this desolate-yet-stylish old school game. Keep an eye on the Studio Denmark website for updates – we certainly will.

Conventions are a haven for game designers to talk shop, and KublaCon 2013 was no exception. In this Gaming News Update interview, we talk with James Ernest of Cheapass Games. The esteemed Mr Ernest is the designer of over 150 game titles, and he led the “cheapass” wave of publishing that swept the industry in the late ’90s. We talk with James about Cheapass Games’ return to the publishing arena, how a game’s theme and design are linked, and the design that’s kicking around his brain trying to get out.

by admin on Mar.10, 2011, under Convention coverage, GNU episode, Interviews
Another recording from DunDraCon 35, this Gaming News Update episode sits down with Patrick Kapera of Crafty Games. Much craftiness was afoot at DunDraCon this year, so we went straight to the source to hear about the upcoming releases for FantasyCraft – Spellbound and Gear for the Ages – as well as what sets the game apart from other fantasy RPGs. Patrick also hints at the rigorous playtesting of SpyCraft 3.0 (including an “exposure” mechanic), which will be published when the game’s ready. From the sound of things, it’ll be worth the wait. Finally, we learn more about the Mistborn RPG, Crafty Games’ licensed system based on the dark fantasy novels of Brandon Sanderson, due out by this fall/GenCon.
