OgreCave GNU – KublaCon 2012 (Free RPG Day 2012)

We’re getting the last bits of KublaCon 2012 out of our system at OgreCave by posting a podcast episode about Free RPG Day 2012. Coming up in just over a week on Saturday, June 16, you may be wondering what to expect from the annual event (now in its sixth year!). In this Gaming News Update interview, Aldo Ghiozzi of Impressions Advertising & Marketing (and Free RPG Day) talks about the influence of Kickstarter on this year’s giveaway offerings, how Queen of the Demonweb Pits nearly got reprinted, melting candy dice, and more. Nearly twenty companies – from Catalyst Game Labs and Fantasy Flight Games, to Goodman Games, Paizo Publishing, and Wizards of the Coast – are contributing free goodies this year. OgreCave GNU – KublaCon 2012 (Signal Fire Studios)

It had been a while since we caught up with Signal Fire Studios, so we made sure to sit down with Jamie Chambers at KublaCon 2012 and hear what his company’s been up to lately. In this Gaming News Update interview, Jamie clues us in to the latest developments: the Building an Elder God card game; how the Metamorphosis Alpha RPG is progressing; gives us a description of the Pantheon card game; heck, Jamie even mentions the twisted children’s book The Very Hungry Cthulhupiller. And who could forget Ponythulhu?

OgreCave GNU – KublaCon 2012 (Crafty Games)

KublaCon 2012 has come and gone, and OgreCave was there to get latest news from Crafty Games. In this Gaming News Update interview, Patrick Kapera of Crafty Games gives us the details on the Mistborn RPG, which has enjoyed an unprecedented level of involvement from Brandon Sanderson, the author of the popular fantasy novels. Then we hear about the SpyCraft 3.0-compatible 10,000 Bullets, a gritty modern setting along the lines of The Wire or Grand Theft Auto. Naturally, a quick mention of the game that started it all, SpyCraft, will be made. Patrick hints at even more as well.

OgreCave GNU – KublaCon ’11 (Jason Bulmahn/Paizo Publishing)

This Gaming News Update episode from KublaCon 2011 sits down for an interview with Jason Bulmahn of Paizo Publishing. Jason tells us all about upcoming Pathfinder products, like the freshly-minted Ultimate Magic, its planned follow-up Ultimate Combat, the prepainted Pathfinder Miniatures coming from WizKids, and more. OgreCave GNU – DunDraCon 35 (Patrick Kapera/Crafty Games)

Another recording from DunDraCon 35, this Gaming News Update episode sits down with Patrick Kapera of Crafty Games. Much craftiness was afoot at DunDraCon this year, so we went straight to the source to hear about the upcoming releases for FantasyCraftSpellbound and Gear for the Ages – as well as what sets the game apart from other fantasy RPGs. Patrick also hints at the rigorous playtesting of SpyCraft 3.0 (including an “exposure” mechanic), which will be published when the game’s ready. From the sound of things, it’ll be worth the wait. Finally, we learn more about the Mistborn RPG, Crafty Games’ licensed system based on the dark fantasy novels of Brandon Sanderson, due out by this fall/GenCon.

OgreCave GNU – DunDraCon 35 (Darren Watts/Hero Games & IPR)

Recorded at DunDraCon 35, this Gaming News Update gets the annual update from Darren Watts, though now in addition to his Hero Games responsibilities he also serves as President of Indie Press Revolution. DunDraCon tradition demands we hear all the knowledge Darren wishes to impart, so listen attentively! Darren describes the Hero System Sixth Edition Equipment Guide and Villains 2, then smoothly transitions to his IPR hat as he mentions the highlights from his “What’s Hot” seminar with Ken Hite: Fiasco (Bully Pulpit Games), Blowback (Two Scooters Press), The Dresden Files (Evil Hat Productions), Smallville and Leverage (Margaret Weis Productions), and other topics. (Many of these hot items were in our latest OgreCave Christmas Gift Guide, by the way.)

OgreCave GNU – NeonCon ’10 (Matt Grau/Infrno)

Recorded at NeonCon 2010, this Gaming News Update gives you the lowdown on all the current projects Matt Grau has his hands in, as told by the man himself. Firstly, Matt tells us about Infrno, the “Facebook for gamers” and electronic tabletop gaming site (and no, “Infrno” is not a typo). Then we hear what WildFire is up to, starting with Cthulhutech, Matt’s well-known RPG system. As Matt puts it, Cthulhutech is for Cthulhu game fans who “want to be able to shoot back for once.” Matt also tells us about the Cthonian Stars RPG, and Nuts, the sequel to this year’s Origins Award winner for Best Card Game, Poo.

OgreCave GNU – NeonCon ’10 (Ryan Macklin/Mythender)

In this Gaming News Update recorded at NeonCon 2010, I catch up with Ryan Macklin of the Internet (also of Dresden Files RPG fame, and the Master Plan podcast), and get the skinny on Mythender, his RPG side project for the last three years. Ryan tells us about destroying the gods, and being epic without becoming what you despise the most. If you want to slay deities, to tear down pantheons, and just be awesome, you’ll want to hear about Mythender. Expect to see the game by Gen Con 2011 (approximately) from Evil Hat Productions.
