Days of Wonder has announced that in February 2011, Alvin and Dexter will be attacking Ticket to Ride boards across the globe. Alvin is an angry alien in a space ship. Dexter is a giant reptilian monster. These two rampage across the board, cutting off players’ access to key destinations during the game, and reducing points for destination tickets to those cities at the end of the game. They are moved by players discarding locomotive cards in a never-ending battle to stick some other poor sucker with the giant monster and the alien menace. This expansion will work with all Ticket to Ride board games, and will have a suggested retail price of $13.00.
The Ticket to Ride World Championship will take place on June 19 in the Musée de la Carte à Jouer (Card Game Museum) in Issy-les-Moulineaux, France. Days of Wonder held national and regional competitions around the globe to find the best TTR player in the world. Seven total champions were crowned. They are from North America, the Benelux countries, France, Spain, Germany, Poland, and the UK. Those seven champions plus one additional runner-up from North America will compete head-to-head, playing several games on the various maps of Ticket to Ride. The one who performs the best will then be declared Ticket to Ride World Champion and win a trip for two on the legendary Orient-Express. The championship games will be broadcast live by the Tric Trac TV Team and on the Days of Wonder Ticket to Ride World Championship page starting at noon in the GMT+2 timezone. According to a handy internet time converter, this is the equivalent of 6:00 AM EST in the United States on June 19.
Days of Wonder once again has trains on the brain. As we’ve noted here previously, Days of Wonder is holding a Ticket to Ride championship series where the World Champion will win a ticket for two on the Orient Express.
As its second powerful blow, Days of Wonder has announced Mystery Express, a train-themed game that doesn’t bear the Ticket to Ride brand. In this whodunit deducation game players take on the roles of would-be passenger-detectives on the Orient Express, investigating a murder that’s just occurred in transit. The project has some solid names attached to it, namely Antoine Bauza (Ghost Stories) and Serge Laget (Shadows over Camelot, Mystery of the Abbey, Ad Astra). The price is expected to be $50/€45. Look for a release in late March or early April.
