Gygax to brave northern wilds. Blame Canada

Has Toronto become a major gaming mecca without my noticing? Or maybe it always has been, and I’m clueless? Either way, I’ve just received word of good ‘ole Mr G himself, Gary Gygax, making an appearance at the Canadian National Gaming Expo on August 26-28. If you can get there late August, a week after Gen Con Indy, it might make a good show to add to your yearly route. See the press release below.

Canadian National Expo press release follows:

Dungeons & Dragons creator headlining huge Toronto Gaming Expo!

Canada’s largest Pop Culture event – The Canadian National Expo – will
be held on August 26-28th, 2005 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
The 11th Annual Expo consists of 5 featured events; Canadian National Comic Book Expo, CNAnime; SFX the Science Fiction Expo, Festival of Fear Horror Expo and it’s latest addition; GX – the Canadian National Gaming Expo. All events feature celebrity guests, seminars, question and answer sessions, autograph signings, video rooms and over 500 exhibitors of every Pop Culture property imaginable. Last year the Expo attracted a record crowd of over 27,000 fans.

The latest feature, GX – the Canadian National Gaming Expo has announced it’s first celebrity guest who will be appearing at the 2005 edition: Gary Gygax, the creator of Dungeons & Dragons, the most successful Role Playing Game of all time. Gary Gygax is considered the Father of all modern gaming, and seldom makes personal appearances. This is a rare opportunity for fans to meet him and listen to him speak about his resurging creation throughout the weekend.

Gamers will be excited to take part in all the different tournaments planned, including Collectable card gards (CCG’s) such as Magic:The Gathering; various Role Playing Games, Miniature Table top games such as Warhammer, Live Action Role Playing and video games. It is being heralded as the Gen Con of the North. St. Toronto, Ontario, Canada. August 26-28. Show hours are Friday
4-10pm; Saturday 10-7pm; Sunday 11-6pm.
