Upper Deck is showing the SpongeBob SquarePants CCG, which looks about like you’d expect for a game where you’re trying to convince the most people to eat Krabby Pattys. A casual look (all I’ve had time for) didn’t reveal any interesting game mechanics, but nothing egregiously stupid, either. However, in

Live From Origins 2003: A free gift from the Department of Homeland Security, just for being you
Played Initial D and HumAliens at the AEG booth. Both card sets look pretty final, although the games don’t come out until September or so. D is definitely the better game of the two from what I saw – the street racing mechanic is very pretty without sacrificing speed. Lots
Dungeoneer May Move to Atlas
We’ve received an anonymous tip that Dungeoneer will be printed by Atlas Games shortly. Apparently, the rights to the game were signed over to Thomas Denmark, the artist and lead designer, and now Atlas will be “bringing it to the people” (a second printing, I’d imagine). This is good news,
Decipher to keep making LotR CCG expansions for a hella long time
Three expansions a year through mid-’07, eh? The ICv2 article makes a point of how Decipher’s CCG license extends beyond the films, to The Hobbit and other stuff. But will the audience persist for this game when the films are a distant memory in pop-culture terms, or will we see
They Have the Huevos
So, which game has the worst art I’ve seen in a while, but gets great laughs and good sales here at KublaCon? Pimps & Hos by Over the Edge Games. Nearly every gamer here has felt compelled to pick up and read a copy, if merely out of disbelief. Yes
OgreCave Reviews: Light Speed & Shady Gulch
Another pair of reviews has arrived, ready for all to see. Matthew explores the outer reaches of Cheapass Games’ Light Speed, co-designed by James Ernest and Tom Jolly. Meanwhile, Demian kicks at tumbleweeds as he reviews Shady Gulch from Politically Incorrect Games.
New console titles based on MtG, White Wolf games
According to this article at ICv2, yet another electronic version of Magic: the Gathering was announced the big E3 video game expo thingy. This one will be for the Xbox. Whether the game, announced by what is now called Atari, will bear much resemblance to the card game is unknown.
Magic still casting expansions
Wizards of the Coast‘s new Magic expansion, Scourge, will be in stores in a couple of weeks (as per the press release, under the “Read More” link below). The set will contain the first card designed by players, Forgotten Ancient, the new “Storm” mechanic, and other nifty stuff. It all
Alien recruiting drive
The guys at Alien Menace, the diabolical geniuses behind some of our favorite weird games, are looking to line up some playtesters for a new historical wargame they’re working on. If you think you’ve got what it takes, head over to their playtest page for details and to apply.
Online tools for your dead-CCG obsession
CCG Workshop is an online purveyor of the cardboard crack of the past, and allegedly the future. Games currently playable online include DoomTrooper (if I’d known, I might not have spent five dollars on those five pounds of cards over the weekend), Wildstorms, BattleTech CCG, Kult, NetRunner (yaaaaay!), Shadowrun CCG,
EverQuest II CCG no longer just rumor
Sabertooth Games legitimized the rumor we’ve been hearing for weeks now: the company has signed a deal with Sony Online Entertainment Inc. to create an EverQuest II Collectible Card Game. Tentatively titled Guild Wars, the game will pit players against each other as guilds fighting for prestige on a server.
From the “my guy kills your guy!” department
This here press release claims that these color-printed, plastic sheets where you punch out the deals and make little models have already sold 40 million units. So, the logical thing to do with them is hire Dan Verssen and make a game. You know, given that you can apparently make
Give me some sugar, baby
Due to high demand, Eden Studios has already begun taking preorders for both the Army of Darkness RPG (due out in October) and the card game (due in November). I, for one, am not surprised. Details on the card game are finally available through Eden’s online store, which states the
Initial D and HumAliens are the CCGs they sound like
It looks like our initial source was inaccurate – those two weird AEG RPGs for kids are card games after all. According to this, the original HumAliens property “is being designed for and released to the core gaming market first.” Does that mean it’ll be followed by a dumbed down
Upper Deck announces trojan-horse CCG
This somewhat mistitled press release says that Upper Deck, the conventional trading card company that somehow scored Yu-Gi-Oh, will be slipping “SportsNut” E-cards into one in three of its baseball card packs for the new season. Fans can then enter the card’s ID in a website and add that card’s
